Mozambique is famous for its beaches, several island archipelagos, great diving with whale sharks and manta rays, friendly people and a vibrant culture. The coast line of Mozambique is about 2500 km long and the highly bio diverse lowland is fed by several rivers and inland water sources.
The capital city of Maputo is famous for its great art and music scene, many good sea food restaurants and an interesting night scene of bars and clubs. Visitors will be amazed by the beauty of the coastal and inland landscapes, which have remained virtually undiscovered until recently.
The province of Inhambane is probably the most developed region in Mozambique with regards to tourism. Inhambane City is the capital of the province, with Barra Beach and Tofo Beach right on the city's door step...
Tofo Beach
The small fishing village of Tofo is located on the eastern shores of the Inhambane Peninsula between the open Indian Ocean and a small inland reed - lake system. The “island style” atmosphere of the village is remarkably colourful, with a great mixture of a local market, local arts and positive latin vibes. The crystal clear waters, with the beautiful white sand beaches are ideal for holiday makers, back packers, scuba divers and relaxation seekers. Real crowds are still unknown in Tofo and with a little walk away from the main beach, you will always be able to find your own little spot of pristine beach.
Barra beach
Barra Beach is a 7 km long stretch of beautiful white sand beach sitting along the shores of the crystal clear Indian Ocean. Located at the northern part of the Inhambane peninsula it's surrounded by a fully intact mangrove estuary system, high sand dunes and a beautiful beach.
Vilanculo and Bazaruto islands
The city of Vilanculos is located 750 km north of Maputo and 300 km north of Inhambane. As the second largest city of the province, Vilanculos is the gateway to the Bazaruto Archipelago. In past colonial times Vilanculos was once the destination for the rich and famous in Mozambique; nowadays the Bazaruto Islands hold the status of exclusivity and luxury lodges. Vilanculos though has something to offer for every visitor. Breath taking views onto the islands and a colorful city make Vilanculos an excellent holiday destination. Islands trips are offered on traditional dhows or by motor boat. The excellent scuba diving possibilities make Vilanculos more than just a gateway to the islands, also because the city hosts superb accommodation options. The city, as well as the surroundings offer several activities and attractions. Other activities beside diving include horse riding tours, Vilanculo's city tours, bird watching tours, sunset cruises, village walks, massages and dhow tours. These traditional sailing dhows are still a common mean of transport amongst the islands. The dhow tour is a very romantic and special experience; a highly recommended experience.
